More about Leandro
Leandro Castroviejo was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where his journey with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu began. From an early age, he was fascinated by the discipline, respect, and physicality of martial arts. After moving to the United States, Leandro continued his passion for Jiu-Jitsu, dedicating himself fully to the art and achieving the prestigious rank of black belt in 2016.
Over the years, Leandro has accumulated an impressive list of accomplishments. He is a multiple-time National Champion, a two-time American Cup Champion, and a four-time U.S. Open Champion. He has competed and placed at the highest levels, including earning medals at the IBJJF World Championships and the Pan American Championship. His competitive spirit and dedication have made him a respected figure in the Jiu-Jitsu community.
Leandro has been teaching Jiu-Jitsu for over seven years, sharing his extensive knowledge and passion for the sport with both adults and children. As an instructor, he focuses on helping his students develop not only their technique but also their confidence, discipline, and overall well-being. He believes that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has the power to transform lives, just as it has transformed his own.
In addition to traditional Jiu-Jitsu training, Leandro is passionate about teaching self-defense, particularly to women and teenage girls. His goal is to empower individuals in the community with the skills and confidence they need to protect themselves.
After six years as part of the Charles Gracie academies, Leandro is now branching out on his own with 'Castroviejo BJJ'. He remains proud to represent the legacy of the Gracie family and continues to have a strong connection with Charles Gracie. His academy in Redwood City is not just a place to learn Jiu-Jitsu—it's a supportive community where students of all ages and backgrounds can come together to train, grow, and support each other.
Outside of the academy, Leandro enjoys staying connected with his children. He values the importance of family above all else and cherishes the moments they share.
Leandro invites you to experience the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at his academy. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or just beginning your journey, his door is always open to those eager to learn, grow, and challenge themselves.
